Daniela Mocanu-Zahn // Zlatna • County Alba

Today, we would like to introduce you to Dana Mocanu-Zahn, a woman who, even though life took her from the village to the city, never truly left the village world behind.

Daniela Mocanu-Zahn grew up in the countryside and carries within her this simple yet profound world—one she loves and seeks to recreate, step by step. Today, she has a tailoring and alterations workshop in Zlatna, where she also creates traditional folk costumes—with the wish that people, including children, feel connected to life “as it used to be,” to traditions, and to the way life was “shaped” in the past.

Her dream is clear and vivid: to return to the village. She has already taken concrete steps—she purchased a plot of land, manages a house in the countryside, and, until she returns for good to the village lane, she has started a heartfelt project.
Through short videos, Dana documents and brings closer the simple people she loves—people she meets, listens to, and speaks with “in their own language.” She has never lost that warm, lively accent that makes her so welcome in the village world.

She films them baking bread, preparing balmoș, weaving on the loom, or setting a broody hen on eggs for chicks—meaningful activities that tell the story of a life lived close to the land.
And her dream goes further: she would like to turn this hobby into a bridge between the city and the village—to bring people from the city who miss it, host them in the countryside, and take them “from village to village,” so they can see how simply and profoundly life is lived on the land.
